What to Expect
If you have not had counseling before, you may have some trepidation about what a counseling session looks like. What if I don’t know what to say? I don’t feel very comfortable talking about my feelings. It sounds awkward. I don’t think I’m the “counseling” type.
Its natural to have some reservations. Its unknown and can feel a little scary. This is what the process looks like from the first contact to the first session. If after reading this website or getting a recommendation from a friend you decide to reach out to me, you don’t have to be sure that you want to set up a session. You can call 828-782-3050 or email andrew@riverbankcounseling.com and say that you’re interested in getting more information. I will either call back directly or email to set up a time to call. We’ll talk for 5-10 minutes – I’ll ask you some questions about what’s causing you to reach out of for counseling and answer any questions you have. We may set up a first appointment at that point, you may decide to think about it more, or I may recommend another counselor with experience specific to what you want to address. If we set up an appointment, you will get an email with a link to an online portal where you fill out paperwork prior to our first session.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
